Excellent response to first invitation for Expressions of Interest
13 March 2008
The Energy Technologies Institute’s first invitation for Expressions of Interest (EoI) to work on the Offshore Wind and Marine – Wave and Tidal Technology Programmes has received an excellent response. By the closing date for submissions on 19th February 2008, over 125 EoIs had been received for each Programme, from organisations including large multinationals, SMEs, universities and specialist service companies.
Chief Executive David Clarke said he could not have wished for a more positive start to the ETI’s Technology Programmes: “The response to this, our first invitation for EoIs has been outstanding, and has given us a clear indication of the breadth and depth of science and engineering capabilities in the offshore wind and marine sectors.”
“Collaboration and Ambition are two of the ETI’s core values, so we are delighted to have so many organisations keen to work with us on exploiting the potential in both these technology areas, and we are looking forward to building many new partnerships over the coming months and years.”
All the EoIs submitted for the Marine Programme have already been assessed by a Selection Panel against the following specific criteria:
- Expertise or capability to contribute to the development and demonstration needs in marine wave and tidal stream energy, Including previous work in marine energy and/or transferable expertise.
- Evidence of a collaborative approach.
- A track record of innovation.
- A track record of delivery.
Following the Selection Panel’s assessment, 34 organisations have been invited to participate in a workshop on 31st March/1st April 2008. The aim of this first workshop is to bring a range of organisations together to work with the ETI to develop outline project ideas and to form the nucleus of consortia to deliver them.
The submissions for the Offshore Wind Programme, which is being managed jointly with the Carbon Trust, have been assessed by a separate Selection Panel and further details of the outcome of these assessments will be published shortly.
